Our First Eagle Scout!

For 3 years, Robbie had a deadline looming up on him. On his eleventh birthday, his dad told him that he needed to have his Eagle Scout award before he was 14 or we, (his mean, awful, parents) would provide him ample time to complete whatever he needed to finish by taking away all other extra curricular activities that take his time. (I think Shane was over-compensating for only becoming a Life Scout.)

Well, when Robbie was 13, he realized that he had 1 year to go and he worked out how he would accomplish his goals. The summer before his 14th birthday found him looking for ideas on what kind of project he could do. I was called as the Stake YW Camp Director and said that a project to help out the camp area would be great. He settled on a project of making signs for the Camp site.

He ended up cutting, routing, painting and staining 45 directional signs and one HUGE sign of the map of the property. He finished the physical labor about 2 days before his birthday. He then had to finish up all of the approval and paperwork. He only ended up missing one stake youth dance and had everything completed by November. He was then an "official" Eagle Scout.

As part of his project, Robbie promised the Stake that he and his quorum would help put the signs into the ground in the Spring. Shane, Robbie, and his scout group went in May and had a campout and made memories installing all of the signs. Luckily, there were some other scouts in our ward who had also completed their Eagle Projects some time ago and we decided to have an Eagle Court of Honor for all 4 of the boys.

One of the boys works at the local museum and a friend at work cares for eagles and does presentations, so he was able to come and share with us the special qualities that eagles have and how being an eagle scout is like that. We're very proud of our Eagle Scout!
